Design Thinking · Human-Centred Innovation · Practical Change
I help teams find clarity in complexity.
I'm Premal Spiegel, a senior design thinking leader working across people, systems and business challenges. I bring teams together, turn ambiguity into testable opportunities and help useful ideas become workable change.

A short hello
Welcome. This is the work behind the title.
A brief introduction to my work, the values that shape it and my publication, The Worker Bee.
Now
My current work
Senior Manager, Design Thinking - Mars Petcare
In my current role, I help cross-functional teams make progress on complex business and customer challenges. I use design thinking, systems thinking and rapid experimentation to move from an ambiguous problem to a clear opportunity, a testable concept and a practical path forward.
The work spans factory, supply chain, digital and product environments. It means bringing research, behavioural insight, operational constraints and commercial priorities into the same conversation - then helping teams align, decide and act.
Frame
Turn complex questions into a shared, workable problem.
Facilitate
Create the conditions for different teams and perspectives to reach clear decisions.
Build
Develop tools and repeatable methods that allow customer-first thinking to travel beyond one project.
What I'm working towards
Human judgement, strengthened by responsible AI
AI is changing how teams find patterns, generate options and move from information to action. I am building the capability to help organisations use these tools in ways that remain human-centred, responsible and grounded in the realities of work.
The opportunity is not automation for its own sake. It is better problem framing, faster learning and more space for the judgement, empathy and accountability that technology cannot carry on its own.
AI-assisted discovery
Use AI to organise evidence, reveal patterns and expand the options a team can examine - without confusing speed with certainty.
Responsible experimentation
Start with small, governed tests. Check the source, confidentiality, bias, impact and the decisions that must remain human.
Adoption people can trust
Involve the people affected, make ownership clear and translate new tools into useful everyday practice.

The Worker Bee
Work, Motherhood and Staying Relevant in the Age of AI
By Premal Spiegel
The Worker Bee explores a tension familiar to many experienced professionals: what happens when the reliability that made you valuable begins to feel less secure? Through the universal experience of a woman, a mother and a capable worker in the corporate middle, the book looks at invisible work, identity, usefulness and the pressure to adapt as AI changes familiar roles.
It is not a manifesto for reinvention. It is a grounded reflection on learning in the margins, making judgement visible and building a professional identity that can travel beyond one role or employer.
How I work
How the parts work together
My value does not sit in one method or job title. It comes from how four dimensions reinforce one another.
Approach
I start with the ambiguity rather than hiding it. I use design thinking, systems thinking and focused experimentation to turn a broad challenge into something a team can understand, test and improve.
Communication
I translate complexity into clear choices. I create conversations in which senior leaders, operational teams and specialist partners can understand one another and move towards a shared decision.
Leadership
I create the conditions for other people to contribute well. I coach, facilitate and connect cross-functional teams, keeping attention on both the outcome and the people who will make it real.
Work ethic
I prepare carefully, follow through and stay accountable when the work becomes difficult. I bring resilience and momentum, together with the judgement to question an assumption when progress requires it.
Practical, human-centred change
- Communication makes the approach usable.
- Leadership turns alignment into collective action.
- Work ethic gives experimentation consistency.
The thread
A career built around translation
Across corporate communications, reputation, global content, social technology and design thinking, the consistent thread has been translation: connecting people, systems and business intent so that change can be understood and adopted.
- 01
Reputation and communication
Building trust, policy and clear corporate narratives.
- 02
Global content and governance
Creating consistent ways of working across markets and channels.
- 03
Technology and adoption
Connecting platforms, process, stakeholders and measurable business value.
- 04
Design and innovation
Turning customer insight and operational constraints into opportunities, prototypes and scalable methods.
I am at my best where the answer is not yet obvious, several groups need to move together and progress depends on both clear thinking and human trust.
